  • @John-zn4lp

    Growing up it was Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo that were my two favorite fantasy artists that really got me to try to express myself artistically, as well, and inspired me to collect as much of their works as possible. It was tough, but when people asked me which one I preferred, I always leaned towards Frank. His style had such a flow and feel to it unlike anyone else. It was also more difficult to copy. When you looked at a Frazetta painting, there was no doubt it was his work. If I could go back in time with the knowledge I have now, I think I would have tried harder to become an artist or graphic artist.

    WARNING. I own Xenclabs 24 now. Text is EXTREMELY fuzzy. Also, viewing angles are abysmal. Sitting directly in the middle, if I turn my eyes to the side of the display everything gets even more blurry and desaturated. It’s like looking under the glass. I have to rock left and right to see anything half clearly. The color settings are basically nonexistent. And the shortcut keys on the pens work only when they want to, Right Click, I’m looking at you.

    Thank you for the in-depth review. It was super helpful seeing a fellow digital artist actually using this device in a similar way to how I draw and paint on it. Mine arrived yesterday and just as you mentioned, it works seamlessly right of the box which is such a wonderful user experience. The lack of glare on this large drawing surface is one of the the main reasons I bought this tablet for. As my main grip with my old wacom cintiq 13HD, which works completely fine to this day was just it's size and resolution. I'm very please with my new upgrade and drawing with the felt nibs is very pleasant. :)

  • @mgvfx

    I just set mine up and running into an annoying behavior quirk. It appears that the pen button "clicks" only register reliably if the tip of your stylus is a few mm off the surface of the screen, MUCH closer than the range needed for the pen's cursor to activate. This makes is almost impossible to do navigation in programs that rely on holding RMB or MMB to pan/zoom/rotate the view. My hope is that I've received a bad unit that can be replaced since I LOVE this thing aside from this deal-breaker problem. I've made a couple of videos that demonstrate the issue but it appears any comment with vimeo links gets deleted.

    I have officially tested both the Xencelabs 24 and the Wacom Cintiq Pro 22 touch, and I can confirm that neither are close to perfect. Tested them on my 2023 MacBook Pro with M2 Max. The Cintiq has a nicer feel when you draw with slightly less pen lag (although they both have noticeable pen lag when compared to drawing with my Intuos Pro which has zero pen lag). The Xencelabs has no fan noise which was a relief compared to the Cintiq which had its fans kick in after 15 minutes. Both screens are the same 4K screen resolution and sharpness, but compared to my 5k Apple Studio Display the screens look soft and are a strain to focus on due to the etched glass. To be completely honest I think these screen tablets are a bit gimmicky and only good in theory. They just have so many negatives that outweigh any positives. The THE GOOD - It looks cool on the desk. I guess it’s nice to be able to draw straight into photoshop or Illustrator. But that’s really it for the positives. THE BAD - Pen lag, Soft looking resolution, less than ideal ergonomics, strain on the eyes, pen and hand gets in the way when drawing, expensive, not ideal if you are using a keyboard for your shortcuts. Can’t take it with you like an iPad Pro. I returned both the Xencelabs and the Cintiq Pro, and I've gone back to my previous set up which is a Wacom Intuos Pro Large with a Studio display running from my MacBook Pro. It's easy on my eyes and better for my posture. I’ll just continue using my iPad Pro for my sketching. I was hoping Xencelabs 24 would be like a giant iPad, but it’s really not. An iPad Pro is intuitive, and the touch features and the Apple Pen on the iPad Pro are amazing! A screen tablet requires a keyboard or a little caddy which is hard to get used to. And compared to the iPad the Cintiq touch features are frustrating and only work in certain software. I definitely DON’T recommend a screen tablet. I’m sure Huion and XPPen would be a similar experience. I recommend every digital artist get a Wacom Intuos Pro Large and a 5k Apple Studio Display. It’s so much nicer. Hope this has helped someone out there. :)

    This is quiet. I couldn't perceive any noise from it and I used it for about 8 hours straight one day, so I think you'll be pleased with the absence of noise. In regards to lag, do you mean in relation to the response to the pen on the screen? I haven't used one alongside a Wacom (so I haven't done an immediate direct comparison), but have played with the Cintiq Pro and I couldn't perceive a difference. I hope that helps?

    • @mrbluepencil_
      @mrbluepencil_ 6 місяців тому

      Thanks Simon, I appreciate your reply to my question. Yes, I mean the pen lag when drawing fast lines. The Wacom pro 22 has a tiny lag which is really not noticeable. I will be able to compare them side by side next week and I will post my results here. Cheers

    Great Video review! I have a Cintiq Pro 22 ATM which I like, but it has noisy fans which I just can't stand! So I'm returning it and instead have ordered one of theses Xencelabs. My only concern is the lag. How have you found it?

    • @pOgOstyle
      @pOgOstyle 7 місяців тому

      That's pretty interesting. Someone said that the Cintiq Pro 22 is much quieter in terms of fan noise than the pro 27 and thats one of the reason I wanted to buy it in the near future. I had the xencelabs for two days to test and had some personal issues with the penfeeling / buttonplacement and the display antiglare which looks kinda unsharp for me... so im kinda stuck on the cintiq pro 16 atm..

    • @mrbluepencil_
      @mrbluepencil_ 7 місяців тому

      I can say that compared to my Apple 5k Studio Display, the Wacom Cintiq Pro 22 4K display is definitely soft looking. The fan noise is not crazy loud like I hear the Cintiq 27 is, but because I work in a silent environment, I can definitely hear the constant fan noise that kicks in after 15 minutes and it drives me nuts. I think that everyone’s situation is different and therefore it might not bother others. Also I find the 22” screen just a touch small and the thin bezels mean my forearm is resting on the edge which is less comfortable than a wider bezel. I’ll leave my thoughts on the Xencelabs here once I receive it and test it out. 👍

    • @erolalien6524
      @erolalien6524 7 днів тому

      @@mrbluepencil_ Would really love to hear your thoughts on the Xencelabs in comparison to the Wacom 22 Pro. I'm just about to buy one of them and I can't make up my mind. I don't like noisy fans and I am a little concerned the 22 inch cintiq is a little too small. I'm currently using the old Wacom 22hd which has a really thick bezel which I use to rest my arm on. Anything on the pros and cons of each would be really appreciated. Also, since you said you were using a mac have you come across any software or compatibility issues with mac os?

    • @mrbluepencil_
      @mrbluepencil_ 7 днів тому

      @@erolalien6524 ok so I did try the Xencelabs for a couple of weeks and I ended up returning it also because the screen is still too soft for me. I work on an Apple Studio Display which is 27inch and 5k. It’s as sharp as my iPhone. But the Cintiq Pro22 and the Xencelabs 24 are both only 4K and both have a matte screen which softens the resolution a bit. I found it a strain on my eyes to work on these tablets because your face is only 6 inches from the tablet screen when drawing. Vs on my Studio display with a normal Wacom tablet my face is 18 inches away and so my eyes can relax. There is zero fan noise on the Xencelabs which I thought was great and the larger screen is better for sure. So if I had to choose I would pick the Xencelabs. Compatibility with Mac OS is good on both. I had no issues. Only issue I had in the Cintiq was the touch screen was useless in most apps like illustrator so I turned it off. But before you buy, see if you can try one somewhere. Returning these wasn’t easy or fun. So the more informed you can be the better. To be honest, I think the best setup is a MacBook Pro paired with a Studio display with a Large Wacom Pro and then add an iPad Pro for drawing which is portable and has a much better resolution screen (albeit smaller). I do all my sketching on my iPad in procreate and the airdrop to my Mac to finish. It’s so much better! I hope this helps. All the best.
